Important Update

Dear PLA Families and Staff:

We have been notified by PowerSchool, our student data management vendor, of the recent widespread cybersecurity data breach that occurred in late December.   PLA takes the security of our scholars and staff data seriously and upon learning of the incident, our Technology Team immediately began an internal investigation to confirm which areas were impacted. It is our understanding that some of the data impacted includes student, parent/guardian and staff information that contains data elements such as name, address, date of birth and student health information.

We believe that the situation has been handled in the best way possible, however, to provide additional support, PowerSchool has engaged Experian, a trusted credit reporting agency, to offer complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services to all students, parents and staff members whose   information  was involved.

  • Identity Protection: PowerSchool will be offering two years of complimentary identity protection services for all students and educators whose information was involved.

  • Credit Monitoring: PowerSchool will also be offering two years of complimentary credit monitoring services for all adult students and educators whose information was involved.

PowerSchool intends to begin the notification process for relevant students, parents / guardians , educators, and state attorney general offices (as applicable) in the next few weeks. PLA will continue direct communication with PowerSchool, and we will ensure to keep everyone abreast of all new information that is shared in the upcoming days.

1/28/25 Update
  • PowerSchool will begin to provide formal legal notice of the cybersecurity incident to families and educators whose information was determined to be involved.
  • In the coming weeks, direct email notifications will be distributed by Experian on behalf of PowerSchool to families and educators for whom there is sufficient contact information available.  
  • PowerSchool will launch a website and distribute a media release to help reach everyone affected and provide them with resources to protect their information. These notices will include instructions for involved individuals on how to enroll in the credit monitoring and identity protection services that are being offered by PowerSchool.
