A 3rd grade scholar at George and Veronica Phalen Leadership Academies (GVPLA) has added a rare accolade to her name—author. Samiah Turner, who participates in PLA’s STEMNASIUM partnership has released her debut autobiography “My Life as an 8-Year Old Engineer.”

The book is now available around the world via Amazon.com.

“I’m excited to share my story as an 8-year old engineer with the world,” says Turner. “I want to show kids my age that they don’t have to wait until they grow up to write a book and be an engineer.”

Through PLA, Turner has developed a love for coding, creating apps, art, and building drones. In her book, she encourages students from all backgrounds to aim high and accomplish their goals.

STEMNASIUM Founder and CEO, Tariq Al-Nasir, says Turner’s work is a shining example of how the program encourages students to build and follow their dreams.

“Samiah’s work is a model for other students and what it means to dream big and follow your passion.” says Al-Nasir. “You hear that the world needs more girls who are active and engaged in STEM, and here we have Samiah blazing a trail and leading the way.”

This is only the beginning for Samiah Turner, who hopes to continue to encourage young girls around the world through STEM.

She has already sold over 300 copies; was a successful guest speaker at a recent conference of over 1,800 of our nation’s top school leaders and educational philanthropists; and is proud to be encouraging girls and all of her peers to pursue their passions.
