• ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

At PLA Davis Elementary School, we believe that every student is a scholar. With the right education, scholars can fulfill their tremendous innate potential and become leaders in their communities and the world.

In 2021, with the support of the Montgomery Education Foundation (MEF) and Phalen Leadership Academies (PLA), Davis became the premier charter school in Montgomery, Alabama. We work together with parents and the community to improve the educational outcomes of our scholars and neighborhood families. Davis exists to serve the local community and create a safe and thriving space for scholars to feel loved, empowered, and encouraged through quality education.

    ABOUT OUR FACILITY

The PLA Davis Elementary School building is historic in its age and its imprint on the community. We look forward to working with MPS to execute capital improvement initiatives this year to ensure that our building is a safe and beautiful place for scholar learning. Davis was built in 1957 and named after Edward Thomas Davis who was Chairman of the Montgomery County Board of Education from 1935-1947. It is approximately 54 years old. The original two-story brick building had twenty-one regular classrooms. In 1980, a new wing was added. During the 2004-2005 school-term, a new media resource center/library was added, along with two classrooms, two restrooms, and a finance office. In the summer of 2005, the playground was rebuilt, and new equipment with a blacktop was added. Additionally, in the summer of 2011, a parking lot was added to accommodate the increase of personnel for the 2011-2012 school year.

    ABOUT OUR SCHOLARS

    E. T. Davis School has a homogeneous student population. The racial make-up of our scholars is consistently 99.5 percent African-American. Davis has consistently maintained an attendance rate of 96 percent. The socioeconomic level of our scholars is best indicated by the fact that 96 percent qualify for free or reduced lunches, which makes the school eligible to receive Title One funding.

    ABOUT SCHOLAR SERVICES

Scholars have access to a full-time school counselor. All scholars receive guidance and counseling services from the counselor through a structured, weekly classroom schedule. Individual counseling and group counseling services are available by referral.

    ABOUT SAFETY

The school is located on a four-acre site in a residential area in south Montgomery. Though this year Davis Elementary becomes a charter, it is still a neighborhood school. Most scholars live within walking distance of the school. Even though entry into charter schools can be competitive, there is always a place for neighborhood families. Davis is a school that will always serve neighborhood families and scholars.
